Limpet Dam
Limpet Dams - Uses

There is often a requirement for owners and engineers responsible for quayside and maritime structures to gain access below the water level to both inspect and to carry out works of maintenance, repair and strengthening.

The Limpet Dam provides a dry access for non-diving specialists.

The system is very adaptable and can be positioned to work against walls of almost every type including steel sheet piling, brickwork, masonry and concrete.

Other structures can also be accommodated including tube piles, bridge piers, lock gates, offshore structures or indeed virtually any shape. Depths in excess of 15 metres and more are achievable depending upon specific circumstances.

The dry environment allows close accurate inspection, particularly useful on assessment of damage repair projects, but also key to quality repair work. This is a tremendous advantage to the client engineer (who will no doubt carry out the inspection personally) and should also give peace of mind to the financial director, who can easily confirm the nature of the work. Designs can be optimised and repairs expedited, to minimise disruption.

Typically a dam can be repositioned in 15 to 30 minutes, and uses only 15 metres of quay length, thus allowing working around vessels and again minimising disruption. Sometimes work can be carried out between the quay and vessels using stand-off fenders.

Cleaning off marine growth from the piles for inspection or repair can be carried out quickly using high-pressure water jetting, leaving the surface with a prepared finish suitable for Welding and painting.
